After a 5 month wait the newest issue of S Magazine was delivered last friday. During summer, I had heard alot of positive reviews regarding the magazine. Because the cover price at the local kiosk was so expensive, I decided to be patient and subscribe to it for a year. Being that its a bi-annual publication, that makes 2 mags! The wait was finally over and after reading through it, the wait was totally worth it.
The magazine ooozes quality. The art direction is top notch. One quickly understands why its a bi annual. Its the size of a book and unlike something like vogue not full of advertisements. I counted 4 ads in the whole thing! S is chock full of amazing photo editorials and interviews.
The interviews were taken of fashion designer, directors, musicians, and artists.
S Magazine is at its root an erotic magazine. But one that is so intelligently done that it seems eroticism takes a second seat to art.
Depending on if you are looking at an editorial or reading an interview, the paper switches from glossy to matte. And the whole magazine has a very unified look thanks to its strict implementation of a grid and choice of a select few fonts.
One factor I love about S Magazine is how it suprises you when you read it. One second you’re reading about a indie directors thoughts on reality tv. And on the next page is a woman sporting nipples on her bum. Followed by a Interview with Lykke Li talking about her music and stage presence.
Its definitely not boring!
