"Lovely Bloodflow" by Baths

Post by // Michael

One of the rare occasions where the video and song are both really really good and manage to compliment each other perfectly!
I’ll be on the lookout for new work from both the production team Young Replicant and Will Wiesenfeld aka Baths that just released the album Cerulean!

Video Campaigns

Post by // Susan

I really like these two video campaigns for Gareth Pugh and Alexander Wangs’ A/W2010 collection. It’s interesting how more and more designers are making videos to introduce costumers to their clothes. The Gareth Pugh A/W 2010 video is directed by Ruth Hogben and stars Raquel Zimmermann. Alexander Wangs fall 2010 video is directed by Craig McDean and stars Abbey Lee.

Chad Waldron for Gary Pepper Vintage

Post by // Michael

Chad Waldron really managed to do a wonderful job on this lookbook for the vintage store, Gary Pepper Vintage. Ever since getting the 7D im addicted to getting ideas from other SLR videographers. I really like the aesthetics in this video and could learn a couple things from his editing. Take a look for yourself.

Monday Video Links

Post by // Michael

This week was amazing in terms of new video content online. Im guessing with the rise of services like vimeo and youtube hd this trend isnt going to slow down soon. So many creative and well executed videos to choose from.

The first video is of a base jump from underwater. Sound impossible doesnt it. But watch this Guillaume Nery is the man you are watching. This video was shot by his girlfriend on her Canon 5D.

The next video I enjoyed was the whole Genius of Design episode! Its an hour long so I suggest waiting until after work to watch this!

Nike is the king of all things advertising. But Adidas came close with this jewel

The new Theophilus London video by Va$htie really impressed me simply because its shot entirely on a 5D withought ANY other lighting equipment, stabilizers, or what not. Love the vintage feel to this video and the fact that you can create something like this with a solid concept and good editing

"Vintage" Olympus Zuiko OM Lenses

Post by // Michael

Attention all Canon DSLR Owners! I thought I’d let you all in on a little secret.
In case you havent noticed, there have been alot of DSLR owners that are going nuts over the quality of HD video supplied by most modern digital cameras.
Most people are running out and spending thousands of dollars on expensive L Lenses with a fixed F stop to take their video to the next level. Leaving most enthusiasts (on a budget) frustrated with the performance of their stock zoom lenses.

Enter the Olympus OM Zuiko lenses. These primes are a joy to use and you’re sure to run into them at thrift stores, saturday markets, or online on the bay. Heres more some more info on the lenses. Most of them where produced in the 80’s and 90’s so they are readily available at really decent prices.

Currently I have the 28mm 3.5 // 35mm 2.8 // 37-70mm 3.5-4.5.
I got all these lenses for under 100.- Chf. Couple that with this OM to EOS adapter that adapts the OM lens to fit onto the Canon Eos mount (13$ Incl. Shipping) and you have a beautiful filming rig for most situations. Obviously the lenses aren’t great in low light but during the daytime you cant beat them!

Thanks to Tom for putting me on to these wonderful lenses!

50 years of Dr. Martens

Post by // Susan

Noisettes directed by Rankin & Chris

I didn’t know, but Dr.Martens is already 50 years old. To celebrate being fifty, they asked ten artists: Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Buraka Som Sistema, DāM-FunK, Michael Davis of MC5 & D.O.A, N.A.S.A, Noisettes, The Cinematic Orchestra, The Duke Spirit, The Raveonettes, VERBAL + YOON to cover a cult classic record made by someone that embodied the Dr.Martens spirit (and wore them of course). Four of the ten videos are already out, and they are all amazing. Each video was directed by someone else. Check their website to see all the videos and the behind the scene footage

Jonathan Glaser

Post by // Michael

So Lars put me on to Jonathan Glaser this afternoon. Another director who’s work is so good I had to give it some shine. Even had a “Oh Snap!” moment when I found out that Mr. Glaser directed the virtual insanity video. Which is definitely one of those clips that had me dancing around the living room as a young man, tippy toeing around the furniture and pretending my floor was moving.

Although his first feature film Sexy Beast wasnt a box office hit. Its a beautiful piece of work and a movie I urge everyone to watch.
His newest music video for dead weather is really well done. I think the beauty is in the details (like when the sun shines through the bullet holes).
But probably the coolest video is the one he did for Unkle, Rabbit in your Headlight Watch the ending!!

Selecting a video to show was difficult.. But the young me cant help but throwback that amazing Jamiroquai video. Its not nearly as visually beautiful as the others but Its worth checking out for Jams moves alone!
