Beautiful.
Yesterday I revisited The Wire. And about 10 minutes in, it solidified its role as my favorite TV Series ever. I remember my friends saying that it was between The Wire and Sopranos. Seeing as I hadn’t previously watched The Sopranos thats what I did next.
Sorry. It doesn’t touch the Wire. The complexity and depth of all the characters is lacking in the sopranos. The slow paced and intricate narrative of the Wire is just spectacular. Im disappointed the show isn’t coming back but at the same time happy because they had established such quality in their seasons on air.
So regardless what you watch, I urge you to borrow the DVD’s and watch this show. Its simply a cut above everything else. I stand by The Wire being the greatest show on television.
Ever.

Thanks to Janosch I witnessed the “Nothing But Flavor” event in Zürich on saturday night. I had no Idea how strong the bboy culture was here! There where so many talented dancers their showcasing amazing skills in house, hip hop, poppin, lockin, and bboy dance.
One dancer had a certain style that really captivated me for some reason. She was so fluid and the way she moved I could literally feel the happiness radiate from her. It was addictive. Watching her was truly a pleasure. Maybe the short video I cut will allow you guys to see what I’m talking about. Heres Estelle from France;
ps; stay tuned for the full video produced by Janosch coming soon…

Im really anticipating the movie “Exit Through the Gift Shop”. It seems the audience is getting a genuine inside look into the street art scene. Which, as far as I am concerned is the most interesting street subculture.
Watch the 5 minute trailer here
The concept itself is pretty rad. Thierry (a french “director”) dropped into the scene while visiting his cousin in france which just happened to be Space Invader. After hanging out with other street artists he wanted to interview the scenes most mysterious character. Banksy. Which led to a Banksy film about… Thierry. Confusing I know.
Its nice to see Space Invader in the movie. Took me back a couple years back when I spent time in Paris visiting susan. I ended up loving the space invaders I saw glued around the city. The colorful Invaders managed to make even the dullest of corners look beautiful. True art.

So Lars put me on to Jonathan Glaser this afternoon. Another director who’s work is so good I had to give it some shine. Even had a “Oh Snap!” moment when I found out that Mr. Glaser directed the virtual insanity video. Which is definitely one of those clips that had me dancing around the living room as a young man, tippy toeing around the furniture and pretending my floor was moving.
Although his first feature film Sexy Beast wasnt a box office hit. Its a beautiful piece of work and a movie I urge everyone to watch.
His newest music video for dead weather is really well done. I think the beauty is in the details (like when the sun shines through the bullet holes).
But probably the coolest video is the one he did for Unkle, Rabbit in your Headlight Watch the ending!!
Selecting a video to show was difficult.. But the young me cant help but throwback that amazing Jamiroquai video. Its not nearly as visually beautiful as the others but Its worth checking out for Jams moves alone!

„I think most people can do a whole awful lot more if they just try. They just don’t have the confidence that they can write a novel or they can write poetry or they can take pictures or paint or whatever, and so they don’t do it, and they leave the planet dissatisfied with themselves.“ (G. Parks, 2000)
I heard the name Gordon Parks uttered during a Interview. It was a short exchange but Parks name was brought up as an inspirational figure to the man interviewed. I decided to look him up and I’m glad I did.

Gordon Parks was a creative that didnt limit himself to one medium. He started as a photographer for Time Life and went on to write novels, compose music as well as direct movies. Shaft being one of them, probably the greatest blaxploitation movie ever made.
When confronted with people that are so great in so many fields I feel compelled to research more about them. One trait they all seem to have is restlessness. Creating all the time! An Interview with Mr. Parks had him stating that he grew used to his restlessness and was constantly working.
Just wanted to tip my hat to this fine gentlemen that managed to create work at that scale as a black man in 1960’s america.

I watched The Boat that Rocked a couple days back. First off if you love music watch this movie. And if you dont, watch it anyways. Its an excellent movie.
Bill Nighy’s character Quentin was one of my favourites. Everytime the captain was on screen I had to chuckle. He really played the character perfectly. After the movie I was like, damn, he had some nice stuff on throughout the film. So I revisited the film and took some screenshots of Captain Quentin.. Yep, I was right. He’s definately got style.

…do yourself a favour. WATCH THIS MOVIE.
This is what a gangster movie should be. Its dirty, romantic, exciting, confusing, brutal, etc etc.
